BSB Round 2 Oulton Park

British Super Bikes Round Two

Oulton Park

Here on the PistonClick site we like to showcase photographers' images from all types of two and four wheeled motorsports. If you have been hanging around this site for a while you might have guessed that motorcycles are my subject matter of choice for a day out snapping.
GLENN IRWIN
British Super Bikes is always top of my list of events to attend and always a hit with some of the other PistonClick photographers. Fast paced with colourful machines, get it right and your images will stand out and get you noticed.
Scott Redding
This is the case with Michael from MH Motorsports Photography. He has been on the fringes of PistonClick for a while and with our three regular BSB spectator photographers not available for BSB round two at Oulton Park, I gave Michael a call. He was available and up for the challenge.
It is always interesting to see what photographers send me after they have been to an event. Some have one or two standout shots with a lot of fillers which is fine, that’s partly what this site is about, learning your craft. Some send a good set of pictures with a few ok ones but not many send more pictures than I can use, and most importantly, with a variety of angles and styles.
SCOTT REDDING
Michael is in the latter class and I think you will agree after looking at this set he submitted he has the skills and most importantly the eye to progress in motorsports photography.
BRADLEY RAY
I have set myself goals when it comes to the site and one of them is to get all of the best PistonClick BSB photographers working as a team at one meeting later this year, Michael included. This is going to be a difficult task as the main contenders are scattered all over the world.
One is in Spain snapping exotic birds, one is in the Far East lining his pockets with gold and the other is sitting behind a computer screen writing text that no one reads as all they want to do is look at the pretty pictures. Prove me wrong, post up a comment on our Facebook page.

If we were able to get all the guys together at one event I'm sure we could produce some of the best BSB images ever seen at one meeting, all from the wrong side of the wire. If you would like to be part of that event drop us a line. Even if you think you will only get two standout shots all day that’s fine, they could make the difference in the report.

In the mean time let's take a look at what happened at the Cheshire track for round two of British Super Bike through the lens of MH Motorsports Photography.
JOSH BROOKES
Josh Brookes on the Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM) Panigale V4R Be Wiser Ducati dominated at Oulton Park over the Bank Holiday weekend. Taking pole position on the new for this year VR4, he went on to two race wins at the flowing Oulton circuit.
JOSH BROOKES
Brookes has now moved up to 5th the BSB championship leader board after a disasterous first round at Silverstone. He suffered an engine failure in practice, the bike died in race one then another engine failure in race two.
JOSH BROOKES
Pushing Brookes all the way on another Ducati Panigale V4R was Tommy Bridewell on the number 46 machine. In race one it was very close, with Bridewell finishing just behind Brookes who claimed he misread his pit board and didn’t know Bridwell was just behind him. Brookes sorted out the pit board issues in race two as he disappeared off into the distance keeping a good gap between himself and Bridwell.
In third place for both races was Danny Buchan on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki who edged out Jason O'Halloran into 4th. As I reported on the BSB Oulton test day report it is early days but starting to look like BSB could be mirroring World Super Bikes (WSB). Alvaro Bautista on another Panigale V4R Ducati is dominating WSB, so far winning 11 out of 11 races with Jonathan Ray on a Kawasaki chasing him.
Danny Buchan
Coincidence or are the Ducatis going to dominate this year? Scott Redding the ex MotoGP rider in his rookie BSB year came in 5th on the second Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM) Panigale V4R Be Wiser Ducati. We will get a better understanding of how the series is going to pan out at the next round, Donington Park, in two weeks' time.

Our favourite BSB rider, Keith Farmer did his good deed for the weekend by delaying the first race after he spotted fluids on the track that had come out of Joe Francis's Motorrad BMW. Francis had a massive crash before the main race which meant the bike needed a full rebuild. The team did well to get him up and running again for the first race, but it failed during the warm up lap. Farmer spotted the trail of fluids and informed the crew in the safety car.
I have to say that Keith Farmer is our favourite rider, or Keith Stewart his number one fan, as announced by Farmer on Euro Sport Live will stop following us if I don’t put something about Farmer in every report. Coming in 7th on the first race and 8th on the second it was a solid weekend for Farmer.
After two rounds the BSB leader board is still not giving us any clues to who will ultimately be crowned champion. The joint leaders are Bridewell and Tarran Mackenzie who went onto score some solid points over the weekend taking 8th place in the first race and finishing in 5th for the second race.
In the Dickies British Supersport Championship and British GP2 Cup it was a carbon copy of the BSB race with Jack Kennedy on the Integro Yamaha winning both races. That’s four from four for Kennedy who is looking good for this year's championships even at these early stages.
Chasing Kennedy down is Alastair Seeley who was second in both races. Riding the EHA Racing Yamaha Seeley is now 20 points behind Kennedy in the Championship. However, we have a long way to go before the final champagne cork is popped on the 20th October at Brands Hatch.
Alastair Seeley
That concludes our coverage of round two, our next BSB report will be from Donington Park.

Thanks to MH Motorsports who used a Nikon D500 with a Nikon 20-200mm f2.8 and a Sigma 150 - 600mm to capture these images. You can see more of Michaels work here.
