You may have noticed from our review of the Official British Superbikes test day at Oulton Park last week that the True Heroes Race team, which we will be following this year in two of the British SuperBikes support race series, weren’t testing at the picturesque Cheshire track.

Phil Spencer the Team Principal for True Heroes Racing explained it was partly down to cost but mainly down to getting the team as a whole together to get in some competitive race time.

True Heroes Racing are not just competing in the Supersport 1000 and Ducati Tri Options Cup in BSB but also in the NG Road Racing Championships, where the team are supporting a number of riders to perform at the peak of their abilities.

If you are not familiar with True Heroes Racing, their mission is to help injured Service personnel regain a sense of direction through competitive motorsport.

The team's output is not just racing at the highest level, it also has a strong mentoring ethos by guiding Veterans and Serving personnel in motorsport.

This is what the team were doing last weekend at Brands Hatch at the second round of the NG Road Racing Championship, as well as getting some quality racing in.

Team rider Dave MacKay is one of a pair of True Heroes riders in the BSB Supersport class this year. Not only was he riding in the NG Racing Phoenix Open, he was also acting as mentor to grassroots rider and single amputee Chris Duggan who was out on track on his 600cc Suzuki.

Chris Duggan is a British Army Parachute Regiment Veteran who took to the track for the first time in 2020. He now has his full ACU licence and competed in his first event race in 2021.

Chris is improving all the time as he gets more track time in, taking an impressive ten seconds off his fastest lap from last year's meeting at Brands to post his first 1 minute lap round the Indy Circuit.

Also at Brands Hatch were associate riders Harrison MacKay Racing, Chris Jacketts, James Cleary as well Ducati Tri Options Cup riders Charlie White and Chris Ganley.

Chris Ganley is another British Army Veteran who is racing in the BSB support races Ducati Tri Options Cup Championship this year, riding the gorgeous Ducati Panigale.

The team have had to modify his bike as Chris is a single-arm amputee so needs all of his controls on the right.

The Tri Options championship features at most of the BSB rounds but not every round. However, it is included in the UK World Superbike round at Donington Park.

So look out for the riders in their distinctive orange, black and white camouflage livery and give them a cheer as they pass and don’t forget the Supersport riders who will be at every round!

The True Heroes team did well at Brands, collecting two third place trophies for Dave MacKay in the Phoenix open and Charlie White in the Sound of Thunder, with a 7th place for Chris Ganley in the same race.

Dave Mackay is fifth in the Phoenix Championship and Charlie White is sitting in seventh in the Sound of Thunder Championship with Chris Ganley one place behind him in eighth.

James Cleary and Harrison MacKay gained some valuable full-on race time and you can next see the team at Round Two of the BSB Championships at Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend. You can learn more about True Heroes Racing by clicking the link.
