Determined PDN Dragons pulled off a hard-fought 21-14 win over Birmingham last night at Loomer Road. Carmarthen, who have now won all four of their league meetings, reclaimed the number one position in the MSDL table - pulling 2-points clear of their rivals.
The first race resulted in a point dropped as Bulls rider Rachel Hellowell and Carmarthen’s Luke Whitehead failed to finish the race. Showing more speed, Arran Butcher passed Dragons favourite Joe Alcock to the chequered flag to finish on a 2-3.
In heat two talented Tim Colley won his first race of the season but unfortunately his teammate Danny Woodward did not start due to mechanical gremlins. Bailey and Jacob Fellows packed in the second and third places for a share of the spoils.
The PDN Dragons roared to victory in heat 3 as Alcock and Whitehead claimed maximum points to edge 10-7 in the lead.
Butcher hit the front again in heat 4 and pulled clear for the heat win. Dragons pairing Woodward and Colley held their lines for a shared heat.
Dragons duo Whitehead and Colley pulled off an impressive 5-1 win in heat 5 to confirm the victory on the night.
Tensions were high in the final heat but Ductair Bulls rider Arran Butcher finished the meeting with a race win and maximum points. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Carmarthen PDN Dragons won the meeting 21-14.
Dragons boss Lawrence Fielding said: “We are very happy and excited to have won last night as that victory has now put us at the top of the table. All our riders were scoring points and it just goes to show as the amount of effort and graft they put in is finally paying off.
But full credit to Birmingham as their riders rode well and gave us a good run for our money. I would like to say thanks to Dave Tattum and his team for all their hard work as the track was well prepared and it proved in the excellent racing throughout the evening.”
