British Superbikes - Final Round

Brands Hatch

14 - 16th October 2022

The final round of the 2022 British Superbikes at Brands Hatch was a strange affair this year. For the last few years it has been a mass fight with a few riders battling it out to take the title and the BSB crown.

Not so this year, Bradley Ray riding the Yamaha R1 only needed a few points in the first race to seal the deal which he did with a professional considered race. There was no need to push for the win,  fifth in the first race of the weekend was enough to get the job done.

As the most successful BSB rider this year, the title is well deserved. Standing on the top of the podium nine times and picking up 14 other podium places for the Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha team he has demonstrated his racing class.

But will we see him ride in the 2023 championship? Well, if the rumours are to be believed, he could be off to World SuperBikes. Speaking on Radio Kent he said “It’s been a dream of mine to become a British champion. I’d like to make the step into the World Championship if it’s a possibility. My manager is talking to a few teams.”

We should know more in a few days.

Yamaha have had a great season, with Ray taking the BSB title which the Yamaha team also took last year along with Taz Mackenzie. But it didn’t stop there, as the Supersport title went to #4 Jack Kennedy and the Stock 600 championship to #30 Max Cook. Both had wild card rides at Brands stepping up a class collecting data for next season.

One rider that won’t racing in our domestic championship is Rory Skinner -  he is off race in Moto2 on the world stage.

Riders that have confirmed for next season so far are Peter Hickman who won race two on Sunday and also picked up a second place. This secured him the Riders Cup the trophy for the top scoring rider outside of the Showdown.  Josh Brookes will be the BMW FHO team alongside Hickman in what is a strong pairing.

Other movements are #46 Tommy Bridewell who will joining the Paul Bird Motorsport team on a rumoured factory supported Ducati. Joining him will be #2 Glen Irwin who won race three and the the final BSB race of the year.

He was joined on the podium by his brother #18 Andrew and #83 Danny Buchan,  both riding the much improved BMW,  if a little late in the season to make any difference to the title outcome but a win is a win.

Moving up to the Superbikes next year is Davey Todd the Superstock champion. Davey has had a great year and is one of the crop of excellent riders that are now making their mark. From success in road racing to the domestic BSB Superstock Championship he is a rider to watch next season.

All of these moves bode well for next year, keeping the championship fresh with new blood moving up and great talent moving onto the world stage. I for one can’t wait for next year’s season to start, April 2023 seems a long way off but you can be assured that the PistonClick team will be there to capture the action!

True Heroes Racing

This year we have been following the True Heroes Racing Team in their racing endeavours. The team this year, like a lot of teams taking part in the different championships, didn’t pick up trophies to display back at True Heroes HQ.

But trophies aren’t everything in racing, and for this team although trophies are nice to have as they are for any team, they are nowhere as important as the message that this team brings to the paddock.

Demonstrating that if you stumble in life or your luck turns sour and you are dealt a bad hand through adversity you can overcome things. With individual dedication and hard work and the support that team work brings you can become more resilient and get back on track.
